Happy Chinese New Year!

Today is Chinese New Year and I am excited about it for a few reasons: 1. It means that tonight we are making homemade wontons and other delectable americanized chinese delights. 2. Its Year of the Dragon which is cool for mupltiple reasons. I was born in Year of the Dragon. Year of the Dragon lands on sweet year marks like 2000 and 2012. And Dragons are just plain cool. (My brother was always slightly bitter that I got year of the dragon while he ended up with year of the sheep. Seeing as my name means female sheep surely that should have been my fate leaving him with the much cooler and more manly dragon, but alas, for his sake, life did not work out that way).

Anyway, I've discovered that having another new year's celebration directly after a new years celebration provides a great opportunity to re-evaluate my resolutions and goals and thus I am feeling incredibly motivated today (hence my having already checked fbook, played tetris and my current blogging, but that is beside the point. I will soon get up and exercise and clean before I eat cream cheese filled wontons, watch me!). Part of this is also due to the fact that this morning I finished reading a most fantastic book: The Best Advice I Ever Got. It is a compilation of advice and inspirational wit and wisdom gathered from successful people in all fields by Katie Couric. It was such an inspiration to read that I feel ready to take on the world and strive to be my best me! (cheesy I know, but I do!). I definitely recommend it to anyone to needs a little boost, a little encouragement, or just a funny and interesting quick read. As sad as it is, it is very satisfying to read about people who we see in the media and admire and realize that they've taken some super hard knocks to their self esteem (ones that would've shredded my self confidence for sure) and realize that the reason they're successful and on top is due to their determination, faith and self assurance. I know there are many books out there which offer the same message, but its always nice to be reminded that when we see people who we view to be livin the dream we are really only seeing the end result of a long and hard journey they've taken and that someday people may look at us in the same way and at the end of our lives we'll look down from the peak we've climbed to and see the valley below and realize just how far we've come. Anyway, I'll stop waxing philosophical and get going on that exercise thing. Happy Chinese New Year everyone! :)

  3. Dragons are probably one of the most 'auspicious' years to get, if not the most.
